Estimation of Soil Moisture from X-band Backscattering Coefficients of Vegetation Fields

چکیده
This paper presents soil moisture retrieval form measured polarimetric backscattering coefficients of a vegetation field. The backscattering coefficients of soybean field were measured by scatterometer(HPS: Hongik Polarimetric Scatterometer) system in 2010. Surface soil moisture is retrieved using measured backscattering coefficients. Surface scattering of soybean field is extracted using semi-empirical water-cloud model. Then Soil moisture is retrieved by surface scattering using Oh et al.’s model.

Multilayer soil model for improvement of soil moisture estimation using the small perturbation method
A multilayer soil model is presented for improved estimation of soil moisture content using the first-order small perturbation method (SPM) applied to measurements of radar backscattering coefficient. The total reflection coefficient of the natural bare soil including volume scattering contribution is obtained using the multilayer model. The surface reflection terms in SPM model are replaced by...

In a perspective to develop an inversion approach for estimating surface soil moisture of crop fields from Sentinel-1/2 data (radar and optical sensors), the Water Cloud Model (WCM) was calibrated from C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values collected over crops fields and grasslands. The soil contribution that depends on soil moisture...

The distorted Born approximation (DBA) of volume scattering was previously combined with the numerical solution of Maxwell equations (NMM3D) for rough surfaces to calculate radar backscattering coefficients for the Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission. The model results were validated with the Soil Moisture Active Passive Validation Experiment 2012 (SMAPVEX12) data. In this paper we exte...
متن کاملUsing Microwave Radar for Soil Moisture Inversion Under Soybean Canopies
The successful radar mapping of soil moisture under vegetation canopies would be a boon to agriculture, global climate change studies, water resource management and other areas. Toward this end, a series of polarimetric radar measurements of soybeans over the entire growing season of 1996 were made at Land C-band at the Long Term Ecological Research site at the Kellogg Biological Station, Hicko...

The retrieved...
